Like Father, Like Son is Hirokazu Kore-eda’s quietly moving family drama about what makes someone a father: blood ties or the years spent raising a child. With Masaharu Fukuyama’s restrained performance and Lily Franky’s warmth at its heart, the film follows two very different families, finding its emotional power in the small moments of everyday life. This edition features improved picture quality, a newly recorded audio commentary, video commentary, and exclusive illustrated packaging.
DISC SPECIFICATION
Story: Ryota Nonomiya is a successful architect who appears to have everything: his wife Midori, their six-year-old son Keita, and a comfortable, well-ordered life. Then a call from the hospital changes everything. Keita was switched with another baby at birth. Ryota and Midori meet the Saikis, a family of modest means whose father, Yudai, runs a small electronics shop. They have been raising Ryota and Midori’s biological son, Ryusei. Torn between the child he has raised for six years and the son who shares his blood, Ryota begins to question what it means to be a father. As the children begin spending time with both families, each family searches for a way forward.
